Buying fresh vegetables today made me feel sick

Hello Folks, thanks for dropping by.

I live in a small country town on the Eastern point of Australia, and have spent more than 20 years supporting the local farmers growing markets.

I love nothing more than fresh green vegetables, handmade products like aged miso, red curry paste, macadamia nut butter, and of course the pastries and croissants.

Every Friday I get up at 6.00 to be at the markets when they open, and home in time for work (I need to factor in at least 30 minutes for hello chats with various other friends and locals).

But today, as I bought firm cucumbers and zuccinis, piled high in my bag with plump carrots and sexy round-arsed sweet potatoes, I felt bile rising.

I looked at the happy birds-nest-haired kids playing together, or hassling their parents for another sweet treat, and I nearly burst into tears in the tomatoes queue.

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN GAZA?? Why is no Aid getting through? Why can’t governments make it happen? And how can anyone, ANYONE, condone starving children and babies?!

I walked back to my car, literally burdened with fresh produce for the week ahead, and just wanted to throw it all away, throw myself on the ground, and weep.

Weep with frustration, despair, defeat.

Weep with anger.

WHY IS NOTHING BEING DONE?

What are our politicians doing? What will they tell their children, nieces, nephews?

How can any of us eat freely, knowing what we know now?

Have you seen latest footage of the skinny screaming boy in blue singlet, banging on his empty steel bowl with a spoon, yelling and begging for food? Oh that’s right: you probably have, as there’s been so many of them…

And yes, I’ve gone to protests/written letters/made phone calls/shared social media posts/gone to protests/donated to agencies/read the news, and gone to more protests…

NOTHING IS CHANGING. IN FACT, IT’S WORSE.

I don’t know what to do. Do you? What have you been doing that helps? One of my neighbours has sailed to Gaza on humanitarian ships The Freedom Flotilla carrying aid; no way could I ever do that, so I donated dollars.

But I can’t fathom these new levels of inhumanity.

I don’t care about your religion, faith, politics or values: children and babies never deserve to be deliberately starved.

With a devastated heart, yet still terrible gratitude, G xO

I am gutted over the state of our world at the moment and am so overwhelmed by all the causes that need support. Gaza is one of the ones I allow my mind to cling to. I am gutted over this new genocide happening right before our eyes. And I too am at a loss at how to be impactful to the situation. So I continue to share posts, and get called antisemitic by an acquaintance, and use my voice to let others know I won’t be silenced over this. I think that’s the best I can do – keep it in the forefront of my circles mind.

Bless you darling. I agree so hard. So much going wrong, and only so much energy in our nervous systems 💔 Thank you for doing what you can do, & I’m sorry for the antisemitism FFS, it’s a humanitarian issue! Take care of your self 🙏🏼

It is hideous. In addition to the genocide in Gaza, there is the gutting of America by an idiot president and his corrupt enablers. I see no light in this dark era.

I’ve no idea the cause, but I can see the terrible damage, & it ruins me. Thank you for reading & commenting Nik, G 🙏🏼

Please don’t equate Trump with America. He did not win the popular vote—the majority of Americans loathe him as much as the rest of the world does, probably more for the shame he has brought us. That he is not being checked is egregious, and we citizens fight every day to get our country back. Our system of government is clearly broken.

What I’m saying is it’s hard to believe he’s able to do all of these horrific inhumane etc things, without others being complicit. He didn’t arrive at those decisions alone and he is being supported more than Americans want to admit.

For example, Obama didn’t enforce the pipeline. Trump came in and pushed it through.

Abortion bans are not about religion, we are not having enough children to support our economy. But they make it about the religious right. Globally, countries are dealing with not having enough people to support their economy.
I’m saying what he’s doing isn’t just his bidding. But he’s a boob and may believe he is running something.

I fear that’s the plan: to break our sense of justice and capacity to make changes. But we cannot be defeated, & they are on the wrong side of history.

I haven’t seen that photo, but I’ve seen far too many others, and like you, I’m angry. The food aid is /there/ piling up, but that monster Netanyahu won’t let it in. And everyone just stands around making tsk tsk noises.

I read recently that China has been making airdrops of food into Gaza for ages. I don’t know how they are getting away with it – maybe even Netanyahu isn’t game to shoot down a Chinese plane – but I’d like to know why OTHER countries, allies, aren’t doing it?

Yes, I’m sure that starving people will fight each other for what little there is, but if enough countries did food drops too, eventually there would be enough for everyone.

No one condones Hamas. No one! What they did was evil with a capital ‘E’. But allowing Netanyahu to commit genocide in retaliation is even more evil.

I would like to see the UN step in, take over Gaza and the West Bank, and administer both according to international /law/.

    Apologies for the rant. 😦

Rant feels 100% correct to me darlin! I agree on every point, & I knew we would. I’ve read that it’s also an Ecocide: Israel bombing all the farmland too, destroying wild areas & killing wildlife… WHY? 💔💔💔

Ugh, I didn’t know about the ecocide, but it’s obvious once you mention it. I suspect there are two motives at play. The first is Netanyahu’s desire too formalise the annexation of Gaza, and eventually, the West Bank. Up till now, if was all done by stealth: settlers sneaking in despite an international law that says they mustn’t. Now, the government doesn’t have to turn a blind eye. It can simply demolish everything and take it over. The fact that tRump is enabling Netanyahu should be no surprise.

The other thing, I think, is that while Israel is on a war footing, Netanyahu and his right wing cronies can’t be prosecuted. And they can’t be voted out either. The longer the war takes, the better, for /them/.

And stuck in the middle are both the Israeli people and the survivors of Gaza. History won’t be kind to Netanyahu.
