Happy Birthday Dad, & I still miss you

The pain of losing your Dad never quite goes away

Honouring the dead is important #over50 #Dad #birthday #departed

It’s my Dad Lawrence’s birthday today– he would have been 83. We lost him suddenly 10 years ago this year.

I miss him so much, & yet he’s still around somehow, which is awesome. I’m deeply grateful for the life I’m living now, which is his legacy to me & his gorgeous grandson, who’s soon to turn 18, OMG!

I’m going to stay home quietly on retreat today, & oil his antique French furniture, the yearly ritual. Tonight, all across the world, his loved ones will be eating Indian food, his fav cuisine.

With love & thanks for all the ongoing support you give me on my journey through this life, in good times & bad, or sad, like today, G xO

  1. Paying my respects…. Great to see your unwavering love to your father…. And glad to know his fav cuisine was Indian…. By the way , today is also the bday of sachin tendulkar , Indian cricketer, nicknamed the God of cricket…. I don’t know if you know him or even whether you care, but just sayin…. He was one of the best cricketers world has ever seen…

    • Hey thank you for dropping by with your respects, that’s lovely. And yes, I’ve certainly heard of Sachin… although I don’t follow cricket really. Good people are clearly born on this day 👍🏼🙏🏼

Happy birthday to him! I’m sorry he isn’t still here to celebrate it, but this was a touching piece for him 🙂

  3. Hugs to you and your dad–and your dad in you! For GloPoWriMo, the prompt for April 24 is a eulogy… I’m writing one for my dad. Lots of love!

  5. You’re doing the right thing – celebrate the life of your Dad with rituals that bring his memory closer…..

This year would have been my Dad’s 100th birthday in December and I’m still trying to come up with a way to celebrate his birthday, while at the same time missing him….he’s been gone now 16 years and I wonder where they went.

    • Thank you- and wow, 100 is a big number- could you go on a little trip somewhere special he would have enjoyed? Or plant 100 trees!? ❤

  6. I’m so sorry you lost your father…there is no easy way to lose a parent. But I am so glad that you are still celebrating his life! I sincerely hope that my kids do that someday, when I am gone.

    • Yes indeed: I tell my son that one day it will be his turn to do the furniture, and organize the Indian meals… we talk about death together, not often, but a little; am just trying to take the sting away for him 😘
