These boots are made for walkin, And that’s just what they’ll do, One of these days these boots are gonna… #Australia #wellbeing #over50blogger #walkingboots @boneAndsilver
I walked on the beach here in Australia yesterday morning after the farmers’ markets; it was wild! I’ve never seen the water so high, and I wouldn’t swim in that ocean if you paid me money; it was thrashing, and whirling.
Still, I pounded my way up and down for 45 minutes, as I’m beginning training for a 4-day hike… but that’s another post (and hence the fairly ugly new boots I’m breaking in, and old shorts- sorry ‘H’, I know you don’t really like them. *grins)
The point is, I began to pick up bits of litter/plastic. I always do, but this time, perhaps because of the storms and rain we’ve just had here, there was much more.

Which reminded me of this fantastically-informative, well-laid out, beautifully-photographed blog I like to follow called The Zero-Waste Chef.
Whose recent post was called Go Plastic-Free in 2018 (or Close to It). Please check it out, and let yourself be inspired.
Let’s do it together! What ways do you think you could easily reduce your plastic consumption? Here’s my top 3:
- Take my own shopping bags to the supermarket
- Use beeswax wraps instead of plastic wrap over your food (remember that post I did HERE about how easy it was? It truly was)
- Use bamboo toothbrushes- did you know that every toothbrush ever used EVER is still in existence?
In gratitude for our natural environment, G xO
Thanks for the good tips. I loved the zero-waste chef blog.

Get rid of the plastic storage containers that soak up the flavors of the food and use glass!

My big thing was to stop drinking our water out of plastic bottles. I don’t think ppl realize how much plastic they throw away on any given day.

Brilliant move, well done. Not to mention the chemicals that leach into the water once the plastic heats up or ages. And yes, I agree, people sadly have no idea how much rubbish they’re actually making 😰
Thank you for caring and commenting, G 🙏🏼

I went with my daughters school on a trip to a rediscover center where they recycle basically everything and make absolutely amazing creation out of nothing. The sadness of hearing like still in most of the household recycling is not a habit.
Kids speaks the true, now I d like to kick the ass of one perfect presumptions mother whose son thinks that throwing a half eaten apple out of a car window is not littering but feeding birds😱😡

That rediscover centre sounds fantastic, what a great idea for a school trip. Like you, I can’t believe people still don’t recycle, it’s such a waste. And yes, littering is super annoying isn’t it? I am always shocked when I see someone throw a cigarette butt out of the car window! Especially in summer and bushfire season : (
Thanks for joining in the conversation Ortensia, : ) G

I try to freeze leftovers in containers not ziplock bags, and often reuse the freezer zip lock bags I do use.

Oh, and litter steps away from a public trash can really drives me nuts. Come on people walk a couple more steps.

Fantastic Steph- there are lots of easy to follow YouTube clips on making the beeswax cloths, I love mine, and they’re great presents too.

Hi, I’m newly following and would like to say I’m also following your tips to avoid plastic but gee, old habits die hard. I’ve also written about this subject but confess to being a sometime hypocrite. http://bobwords.com.au/the-dangers-plastic-waste/

Yup; 17 & I were equally horrified by that fact- you can easily buy compostable bamboo ones at your health food store
